It seems that everyone has of late fallen into the habit of punctuating their sentences with a smiley face….like this So now that when we write one another and we don’t wish to be misunderstood or misinterpreted and we want our good intentions to be clear at all times, there is no longer a need to bother with choosing the right words, or fashioning the well-turned phrase, the phony smile we present to one another in our personal contact has now found its way onto the page.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. The more adversity life presents the artist, the more he learns that art is the only solution.
Art is war, a battle to the death with your personal demons. Destroy yourself or create, you have two options if you’re an artist.
But you have to do what you dream of doing even while you’re afraid.
Talent is hard work. And the humility to do that work.
It is not the money or the promise of universal acceptance, but the unbounded joy of discovering the truth about a character, about a scene, about a script, that keeps us coming back time and time again.
